The city of Pleasanton has a rich history that goes back 4000 years, to when the Ohlone Indians settled along the Pleasanton Ridge. With the building of Mission San Jose in 1797, the Spanish influence absorbed the Ohlone into the mission. The area now known the Amador Valley became pasture land for the mission's cattle herds. The California Gold Rush brought new prosperity to Pleasanton ... not as a mining town, but as a merchantile stopover for miners on their way to find their fortune in the Mother Lode of the Sierra Nevada foothills. While Pleasanton maintained its small town charm, the cities bordering the Bay continued to grow, which ultimately forced many people to find housing away from the hectic city life. Pleasanton became an incorporated city in 1894, and has continued to prosper for more than 100 years! Pleasanton has done an excellent job of allowing controlled and balanced growth of both housing and business. At the crossroads of Highway 580 and 680, it is an easy commute to any city in the Bay Area. It is also becoming a favorite relocation city for business such as PeopleSoft, Safeway and AT&T.
